Anders Örtegren – your new communications officer!

Finally! That’s what I thought, felt and exclaimed when my new job was in the bag: a communications officer with responsibility for research communication and film at the Department of Biology. Finally, I would get to work with something I am passionate about – to develop communication in a vital field, that I am also very keen to learn more about.

I have previously worked as a communications officer at the Department of Architecture and Built Environment, the Department of Geology and the Department of Cultural Sciences. I have also worked with and been involved in the web accessibility project at LTH.

Prior to that, I worked as a copywriter at IKEA, a journalist at Östersunds-Posten, Swedish National Radio P4 and SVT, and as a communications officer at the government agency Swedac, the waste management and recycling company Renova, Region Skåne, Malmö Municipality, Lund Municipality and more. I have also had time to freelance a lot over the years: mainly about music, architecture, design and sustainable development.

I was born in Stockholm, grew up outside Washington DC, and have lived in Gothenburg for 23 years before relocating to Lund in 2013. My favourite place in the whole world, however, is the island of Fårö where I have spent almost every summer since the summer of love.

Words and images has always been my job. For the past 20 years, a lot of focus has been on storytelling and branding. Through stories about businesses, people and projects, inside and out, I have managed to raise awareness and strengthen the brand for the organizations I have worked with. Something that has become more important every day is storytelling with the help of videos. This will be one of my big challenges at the Department of Biology!

When I’m not working, I like to take one of my Bianchi road bikes out for a ride, take photos – both analog and digital – mess around in the kitchen, build stuff and grow things in the garden. I am immensely fond of British humour, am childishly happy with new musical discoveries and cannot do without coffee. But, first, last and always: I am the boundlessly proud father of two daughters: Ester and Klara.
