Hi! My name is Astrid Pold Vilstrup. I am excited to be a postdoctoral researcher here at the Department of Biology in the group of Jessica Abbott. I moved to Lund from Denmark where I obtained my Ph.D. from the Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Aarhus University. During my Ph.D., I researched the molecular mechanism and evolution of alternative paralog-based complexes essential for germline transcription and male fertility in the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster.
At Lund University, I will investigate if and how antagonistic coevolution between the sex chromosomes X and Y can drive population-specific male and female adaptions and if this can contribute to reproductive isolation between conspecific populations. To research this topic, I will utilize different populations of Drosophila melanogaster.
When I am not working, I like to spend time in nature hiking and camping with my husband and our dog, read fiction and spend time on creative projects
