Lördagen den 8 april är det dags för jubileumsversionen av Biologins dag i Lund. Mellan 12 och 16 har vi öppet hus på institutionen. I år kommer de flesta aktiviteterna att vara i Biologihuset, förutom Biologishowen som kommer att hålla till i Blå hallen i Ekologihuset. Vi kommer bland annat att ha visning av mikroskop, vindtunneln, museiverksamhet och räliga djur.
Men för att dagen ska bli verklighet behöver vi din hjälp!
Fotoutställning
Vi tänkte ha en fotoutställning med foton som har någonting med vad vi sysslar med på institutionen att göra. Det kan till exempel vara mikroskopifoton, foton från vindtunneln, foton från pågående försök eller foton på växter, fåglar eller andra djur vi studerar.
Utställningen kommer att bestå av 20 foton i ca A3-format. Vi i projektgruppen väljer ut de foton vi tycker passar bäst. Efter Biologins dag kommer vi att återanvända fotona dels på en LU350-utställning på Grand hotel i Lund och dels dekorera våra korridorer. Kanske dyker fotona upp även på webben eller i någon trycksak i framtiden.
Vill du bidra till vår fotoutställning så laddar du upp din bild i så stort format och med så stor upplösning som möjligt i vår BOX-folder (https://lu.box.com/s/gbn5hv7erx48ubxtrrcuowx0hfadfkiw). För att ladda upp en fil måste du logga in med ditt LUCAT-id. Välj först Lund University och logga sedan in. Döp filen till FörnamnEfternamn_motiv.jpg. Ladda också upp en word- eller textfil med samma namn som fotot där du skriver titel på fotot (= mycket kort beskrivning av vad fotot föreställer, inte mer än max 6 ord), namn på fotografen och en något längre beskrivning av vad fotot föreställer och eventuell metod för att ta fotot (typ mikroskop eller genom annan typ av utrustning) på max 200 ord. Du är välkommen att ladda upp flera foton.
Genom att ladda upp foton medger du att vi visar dem fysiskt på Biologins dag, på fotoutställningen på Grand, i våra korridorer och/eller digitalt på webben eller i tryckt form (i till exempel foldrar eller på affischer). Givetvis kommer fotografens namn att stå med.
Vi måste ha dina foton senast den 28 februari.
Vi förbehåller oss rätten att välja foton till utställningarna.
Science slam och annan hjälp
Vi hade också tänkt att ordna ett Science Slam där publiken får rösta fram en vinnare. Berätta under max 4 minuter om din forskning. Det här är ett ypperligt tillfälle att träna på att presentera din forskning populärvetenskapligt. På Forskar Grand Prixs webb finns tips på vad du ska tänka på när du förbereder en så här kort presentation.

The 350 Jubilee edition of the Lund Biology Day will be held on Saturday the 8th of April. Between 12 and 16 we will have an open house at the department. This year, most of the activities will be held in the Biology building with the exception of the Biology Show that will be held in the Ecology building. We will have guided visits to the microscopy facility and the wind tunnel, exhibits from the museum, scary animals, experiments and much more…
However, for Biology Day to be the best is possibly can, we need your help so please read on!
Photo competition
We would like to have an exhibition of photos showing what we do at the department and we need your contributions. Images can be, for example, microscopy images, photos from the wind tunnel, research in action or anything else that has something to do with the work that goes on at the department and the animals or plants that we work with.
The exhibition will consist of 20 photos printed out in high quality A3 format. The members of the Biology Day project group will select those photos that we think work best for the exhibition. After the Biology Day, these photos may also be used in an exhibition that the Jubilee Committee is organising at Grand Hotel and they will be used to decorate the corridors of the department, so this is your chance to make a lasting impression on us all! We may also use the photos for the department’s website or in other electronic or printed material (always with full credit, of course).
If you would like to contribute to the photo exhibition, you can upload your image, in as high resolution as is possible, to our shared Box folder (https://lu.box.com/s/gbn5hv7erx48ubxtrrcuowx0hfadfkiw). In order to upload a file you have to login with your LUCAT-id. Choose Lund University and then login. Name the image file according to the following: FirstNameLastName_WhatThePhotoIsShowing.jpg. You may submit several photos. With each photo, upload a corresponding word or text file with the same name as the photo where you give a short title of the photo (6 words max), the name of the photographer or the person to whom the image should be credited and a longer description of the photo in maximum 200 words.
By uploading the photo, you give permission for us to use it for the Biology Day photo exhibition, the photo exhibition at Grand Hotel, in the corridors of the department, digitally on the department’s website or in printed material from the department (full credit will always be given).
Photos must be uploaded by the 28th of February at the latest!
The Biology Day project group reserves the right to select the photos for the Biology Day exhibition and for the exhibition at Grand Hotel.
Science Slam and other help
We would also like to organise a Science Slam, where researchers present their work in 4 minutes and compete against each other for the audience’s votes. This is a fantastic opportunity to practice giving popular scientific presentations and anyone from the department with a research story to share is welcome to participate (the presentations may be in either English or Swedish but we expect that the audience will be mostly Swedish so you might like to use this as an opportunity to practice presenting your research in Swedish). The Forskar Grand Prix website has good tips for what to think about when you prepare for giving such short presentations (in Swedish).

Due to our large number of planned activities, we need volunteers to help us out with organisation so that we can make this a truly fantastic celebration of Biology in Lund.
