QM Imran – new researcher

Portrait of QM Imran. Photo.

My name is QM Imran, and I have recently joined the Department. Before coming here, I was a postdoctoral researcher at Umeå University. My previous work focused on studying the role of the Mediator complex – a co-regulator of eukaryotic transcription- in chromatin dynamics and in how plants respond to environmental stresses. I have used tools/methods such as RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, and metabolomics to uncover how plants sense environmental cues and how the Mediator complex contributes to these responses.

In Sebastian’s group, I will continue exploring epigenomic regulation, with a specific focus on how histone methylation contributes to transcriptional repression at certain promoters. By employing a genetic system that uses CRISPR/dCas9 or engineered DNA-binding proteins, we aim to target histone modifications to specific loci. This will help us understand how changes in chromatin structure influence gene repression.

When not in the lab, I enjoy playing badminton, spending time in nature, watching historical films, visiting historical sites, and playing cards or board games. Feel free to reach out if you’d like to chat about any of these interests.
