Hello, my name is Sara Raj Pant and I will be joining the Animal Navigation Lab (ANL) as a postdoctoral researcher in April. I grew up in the north-western alpine foothills of Italy, obtained my master’s in biological sciences at University College London and my dual PhD in behavioural ecology at the University of Groningen (Netherlands) and the University of East Anglia (UK). My PhD investigated the evolution of extra-pair reproduction in the Seychelles warbler (Acrocephalus sechellensis), a socially monogamous passerine endemic to the Seychelles archipelago.
The postdoc project I am starting in the Animal Navigation Lab is hosted by Susanne Åkesson and will investigate the variation in the migratory strategies of several bird species tracked over multiple years. The project will assess differences in migratory strategies between individuals, and their impact on fitness, as well as changes in migratory behaviour within individuals with age.
Besides behavioural ecology, I love hiking (especially in the mountains), music, martial arts (particularly judo and jiu-jitsu) and travelling, among other things.
I am thrilled to start this exciting project in the excellent and stimulating environment provided by the ANL and the Department of Biology at Lund University!
