Hi everyone! My name is Susana and I joined Caroline Isaksson’s research group at the start of this month as a PhD student.
I come from a village near Barcelona, Spain but I left in 2012 to carry out my undergraduate studies in Biological, Earth & Environmental Sciences (majoring in Zoology) at University College Cork, Ireland. I moved to Sweden in 2018 to pursue a Master’s in Applied Ethology & Animal Biology at Linköping University. For my Master’s thesis, I investigated how different social conditions early in life can affect cognition in birds. Last year, I moved to Skåne and became a research assistant for the Vision Group here at Lund University, reconstructing insect neurons and brains in 3D.
During my PhD, which will be co-supervised by Helena Westerdahl and Jenny Rissler, I will be working on how air pollution (specifically soot) affects the physiology of birds and insects at different temperatures, using both lab and field studies.
In my spare time, I love exploring nature, cycling and travelling, but I also enjoy the quiet afternoon reading, watching a movie, or just spending time with my pets, family & friends.
I look forward to working on this new project at Lund University and continue being part of this great research environment!
