Today was the second time SACT arranged an excursion to find edible spring plants. In many parts of the world, there is a tradition to go out and gather fresh leaves and plants in the spring. These vitamin rich herbs then make their way into a lot of different recipes in different countries.
This plant gathering is now a new tradition at the department. And it is a very good opportunity to meet, over the borders of units and houses.
We were 16 persons, from at least 6 different countries, that went on the excursion under guidance of the botanists Honor Prentice and Torbjörn Tyler. We were very well taken care of, no risk at all to pick the wrong plants.
All participants went home satisfied, with large bags full of nettles, ramson and ground elder at least.
Johan Hollander will compile a pdf of all the participants’ recipes, a “biology cook book”. Please, send him your recipe, if you have not done that already.
Now I am looking forward to a good nettle soup. A pity you have to rinse them before though.
Thanks a lot to all the organizers!
