Administration on the move

A person is looking out of a round window in a door. Beneath the window is a sign with the text Biologiska institutionen Prefektkansliet.Right now parts of the administration are moving to the old premises of Kansli N on the second floor in the Ecology Building. From this week onwards you will find Monica Pardon (Head of Administration), Thomas Larsson (HR-Administrator), Szidonia Ruggiero (our new Accounts Administrator) and me (Inger Ekstrom, Information Officer) settled there.

Next week Peter Stenild Matthesen (EU Accounts) will join us. And later in September both Ella Bohlin (Accounts) and Christine Malm (Accounts) will move in too. Christine is going to work half her time in the Ecology Building and the other half in the Biology Building. Christer Löfstedt will of course have his office here when he works as Head of the Department, and he too is moving in soon.

Carl Sjökvist, our Building Supervisor, will stay where he is right now at the old Prefektkansliet until some further moving is done.

We are looking forward to see you at the brand new Prefektkansliet!

New PhD-students in the Vision Group

Three people are standing outside agains a green wall of leaves.

We would like to introduce you to our three new students that have recently started their PhD projects in the Vision Group. They are Aravin Chakravarthi (left), Anna Stöckl (centre) and Nellie Linander (right). Aravin will be working on the ecological and behavioural constraints of visual resolution in bees. Anna will be working on adaptations for dim light vision in insects and Nellie will be working on visually guided obstacle avoidance in flying insects.

David Carrasco – New Post-doc in the Pheromone Group

Portrait of a person against a green bushes.

My research interest has been moving during last years from evolutionary and behavioral ecology towards the fields of chemical ecology and neurophysiology of insects. Specifically, I focus on how ultimate insect decisions such as food preference and oviposition site selection are linked to proximate physiological mechanisms.

My work in the Pheromone group will investigate the chemical compounds that attract closely related weevils (Apion spp.) to different clover species, their host plants. Besides, since weevils cause important economic damage on clover seed crops, the project will also focus on the production of synthetic lures to regulate the population of this pest species.

Insekterna flyttar in
